How to use
Use as a spread or eat directly from the jar. You can also warm it to create a delicious fondu. Blended with warm water or your favourite milk, makes for a great hot chocolate!
Coconut Butter is known for its Lauric Acid content, and for its quality, healthy saturated fats. Cholesterol does not naturally occur in the plant kingdom. Unlike saturated animal fats, coconut oil is cholesterol free, making it safe for people with cholesterol challenges. Lauric Acid promotes immune function through its transformation into monolaurin once ingested.
Our body's cells are comprised primarily of saturated fats. Regular consumption of Coconut Butter promotes cellular health reducing oxidative damage from free radical exposure. Internal cellular protection translates externally to healthier, more hydrated, younger looking skin.
Medium Chain triglycerides (MCT's) are abundantly found in Coconut Butter. Unlike other forms of fat, the liver is able to metabolise MCT's similarly to how it utilises carbohydrates as a fuel source. Coconut Butter's digestibility means that it is quickly absorbed by our bodies, and not left to circulate the blood stream like other fats. The MCT's in coconut oil have also been shown to have thyroid supporting mechanisms. Studies that were conducted on the basal (resting) metabolic rate of people who ate MCT's comparative to those participants who consumed more LCT's (long chain triglycerides i.e. vegetable oils) were found on average to have a 12% increase in their basal metabolic rates.
Raw Cacao Beans contain 10 grams of flavonol antioxidants per 100 grams, which is an incredible 10%. Research has also demonstrated that the antioxidants in cacao are highly stable and easily available to human metabolism. Raw cocoa powder has set the world record for antioxidants with nearly 4 times the amount of antioxidants as Goji Berries.
Magnesium for the Heart and Brain
Raw cacao is the primary dietary source of magnesium, the most deficient mineral in western civilisation. Magnesium is the most important mineral for a healthy functioning heart. It also plays a key role in producing energy for the neurons in the brain from glucose. So when there is an abundance of magnesium the brain works with clarity and focus.
Mood elevators and Anti-depressants
Cacao is a great source of serotonin, dopamine, anandamide and phenylethylamine (PEA), four well-studied neurotransmitters, which are associated with feelings of well being and help alleviate depression. Both PEA and Anandamide (the bliss chemical) are found in abundance in the brains of happy people and are particularly released when we are feeling happy. Both of these neurotransmitters are present in raw cacao in large enough quantities to affect the brain and lift our moods. Cacao also contains monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO Inhibitors) that keep neurotransmitters in the bloodstream for longer without being broken down.
About Loving Earth
Loving Earth is a Melbourne based company dedicated to sourcing and manufacturing the highest quality organic, fairly traded and wild crafted functional foods available. We work with small producer communities around the world to provide healthy, sustainable & fair ingredients, which we use to handcraft our unique range of raw chocolate bars and superfood snacks.
Having established long-term relationships with several indigenous cooperatives, our aim is to help them add as much value as possible to their raw products at the point of origin.
Loving Earth is based on the philosophy that the earth is a living organism, a concept that James Lovelock popularised with his “Gaia theory”. The very same idea is at the heart of many indigenous cultures around the world. This philosophy creates an immense respect for our environment as well as our own physical bodies as part of that environment.
Eating foods in their pure, minimally processed states, foods that are grown organically in a sustainable way, is one of the most significant ways in which we can live this philosophy. Not only are we nurturing our own health and wellbeing but we are also nurturing the health and wellbeing of our planet.
These are the 3 fundamental principles of Loving Earth and define the strict criteria which we use to source and develop all of our products:
They are sugar, dairy and gluten free.
Are minimally processed, with low temperatures where possible.
There are no artificial additives to any of the products.
Our focus is to source and develop products that are in their optimal nutritional state.
Produced without the use of synthetic fertilizers or chemical pesticides and herbicides.
Cultivated in such a way as to help restore native ecosystems, prevent erosion and support water conservation.
Use traditional permaculture systems and where possible are shade grown using native canopy species.
Are produced according to Fair Trade standards, that involve producers and workers being paid not only a fair price, but also being empowered with the skills and infrastructure to add as much value to the raw products as possible.
Create healthy environments in which producers and their families live and work.
Re-invest in community infrastructure such as educational, health and other essential services.
A key part of our mission at Loving Earth is to source products from the Indigenous communities where they originated. This supports these unique and special indigenous communities in maintaining their cultural integrity. Most of the functional foods that we source have played a central role in the cultural heritage of the indigenous communities that have cultivated and/or harvested them from the wild ecosystems in which they live.
They are foods that have held special sacred significance for these indigenous cultures due to their life enhancing qualities. By sourcing these products from the indigenous communities that have cultivated them for thousands of years, we provide an environmentally sustainable source of income that also maintains the rituals and way of life that often revolves around the production of these products.
Loving Earth supports the conscious consumer movement by sourcing products that are produced according to specific environmental and social standards. Where possible we work directly with indigenous grower associations around the world and our goal is to inform end consumers of the environmental, social and cultural context in which the products are produced.
We are also working to go beyond the conventional Fair Trade system by empowering indigenous communities to add as much value as possible to their raw materials at the point of origin. This means more money and power is put back into these communities.
