Ultra Silica Complex is a blend of vitamins, minerals and amino acids formulated to support the health of hair, skin and nails. Ultra Silica Complex contains Horsetail stem, a natural source of Silica as well as elemental Silica from two forms. Silica is required for the healthy development and functioning of connective tissues, particularly skin, tendons and bone.

Ultra Silica Complex also contains a clinically trialled dose of biotin, which may assist in improving the condition of brittle nails. In clinical trials participants supplementing with 2.5mg of biotin daily reported a reduction in nail splitting as well as improvements in nail thickness, hardness and firmness.

Ultra Silica Complex provides the antioxidants cysteine, zinc, manganese and vitamin E. Cysteine is an amino acid that is involved in connective tissue growth. Zinc is required for normal skin repair, wound healing and the maintenance of healthy skin. Zinc is also essential in the formation of collagen, connective tissue, hair, nails and skin. Manganese is involved in collagen production and vitamin A is essential to support healthy skin.

Adults - Take 1 tablet daily, or as directed by your healthcare practitioner.

Children under 12 years - Only as directed by your healthcare practitioner.

Cautions and interactions

When taken in excess of 3000 mcg retinol equivalents, vitamin A can cause birth defects. If you are pregnant or are considering becoming pregnant, do not take vitamin A supplements without consulting your doctor. The recommended daily amount of vitamin A from all sources is 700 mcg retinol equivalents for women and 900 mcg retinol equivalents for men.

Vitamin supplements should not replace a balanced diet.

Most people will usually notice hair loss when excessive hair is found on hairbrushes, in the bathroom (sink or shower) or on bedding. The severity of symptoms may vary from person to person; some may experience hair thinning, extensive hair loss or complete baldness. Hair loss may be temporary (excessive hair styling, hair pulling or hormonal Imbalances etc) or permanent (particularly if hereditary).

Men often notice hair loss beginning at the temples and crown of the head. Women may notice hair loss at the front, sides or top of the head, or experience hair thinning, although women rarely develop complete baldness.

Ageing: as you get older, it's common for hair to thin as your body loses its ability to replace lost hairs. Genetics: several genes are involved in hair loss. In men, this is often referred to as male pattern baldness. One type of alopecia, alopecia areata, is an autoimmune condition. The immune system attacks the hair follicles, leading to hair loss.

Hair treatments including chemicals used in hair dyes and styling devices can damage hair and cause temporary hair loss. Illness can lead to hair loss eg: hypothyroidism; usually due to reduced hair re-growth rather than hair loss and is usually temporary. Medications. Alopecia can be an unwanted side effect of some medications including antibiotics, antidepressants, antiepileptic, gout and chemotherapy. Hormonal imbalances. Nutritional deficiencies. Stress.

Lifestyle Treatment

Currently there is no cure for alopecia, however, there are several factors that may lead to improvement:

Reducing chemicals used on your hair, including hair dye. Reducing pulling on hair follicles that occurs during hair straightening, perming or styling. Ensuring a balanced and nutrient-dense diet including good quality protein which provides essential building blocks for your hair. Managing stress levels.

Silica is a mineral that is abundant in hair. It is required for the formation of keratin – the main protein in hair. Silica helps maintain optimal hair condition and strength.

Biotin is required for strong and healthy hair for the cross linking of proteins in the hair shaft. Antioxidants such as resveratrol and zinc are important to offset free radical damage, shown to play a key role in male-pattern baldness.

Essential fatty acids eg: flaxseed oil, fish oil or salmon oil, are important for healthy hair.

Zinc plays an important role in collagen formation and is essential for the healthy development and repair of hair.

Vitamin A plays a role in keratin and collagen production so helps promote the growth, repair, elasticity and strength of hair. Iron deficiency may exacerbate hair loss.

Horsetail may be useful in alopecia as it is rich in silica; a nutrient necessary for the formation of keratin sulfate, an important component of the hair shaft. Rhodiola and Withania may be useful in alopecia as they increase your body’s resistance to stress which is a common cause of hair loss.

Vitex and Bulgarian Tribulus may be useful if hair loss is caused by hormonal imbalances.
