About Hab Shifa
For as long as I can remember, I have grown up listening to stories of the diversity of the Black Seed. I have always known that the Black Seed has been used for thousands of years, however I was curious to find out WHY it has been so highly regarded in civilisations gone by, and HOW it has withstood the test of time to be just as highly regarded today.
My research took me on a rich historical journey that started with the use of the Black Seed in early Egyptian civilisations. I was particularly intrigued to learn that a vial of black seeds was even found in Pharaoh Tutankhamen’s tomb! It was little wonder then that the Black Seed was extensively mentioned and used in several contexts of healing and treatment.
I later learned that while the earliest use of the Black Seed was first evidenced by the discovery of Tutankhamen’s tomb, this remarkable seed was also mentioned in the Bible- indicating its use at least 2000 years ago, and later, in Islamic scriptures, 1400 years ago. I was intrigued by the fact that people had observed the positive effects of the Black Seed in its ability to address a range of health problems, and continued to use the Black Seed through the generations without quite knowing how or why it worked.
The eariest documented form of scientific research into the mysterious Black Seed was in 1960- when unique constituents were first isolated from the Black Seed, providing further evidence to support its complex function. Today, a simple search on ‘Nigella Sativa’ in any medical journal returns a plethora of results, and provides further evidence on just how varied and comprehensive the Black Seed is in dealing with the complex labrynth of the human immune system.
The mounting evidence on the healing properties of the Black Seed was what led me to the formation of Hab Shifa. The name Hab Shifa is derived from the Arabic terms ‘Hab’- seed and ‘Shifa’- cure.
