About Eco Store
Ecostore is a principles-based company. We think everyone has a right to know exactly what's in the products they use everyday and whether or not they could be harmful to our health. That's why we go above and beyond legal requirements by listing every ingredient on our product labels and why you can count on us to deliver on our promise.
Healthier for You
At latest count, there are more than 84,000 chemicals in existence for commercial use with 1000 new chemicals being developed every year around the world. The problem is that legislation hasn't been keeping up with chemical development and long after they've been made available for everyday use, links are being made between some of these chemicals and health concerns like hormone disruption, allergies, asthma and even cancer. Your health is a big concern for us and that's why ecostore scientists evaluate and minimise the impact of our products on people's health every step of the way, from sourcing raw materials to end use.
Healthier for the Environment
We use sustainably-sourced plant and mineral based ingredients over petrochemical ones whenever possible and every one of our ingredients is assessed for: sustainability and biodegradability. We carry out comparative ingredient assessments of every product against leading brands to make sure we achieve significantly safer ratings for the environment. We undertake independent environmental testing to make sure that our products are suitable for septic tanks and greywater systems.
Minimising packaging is our biggest ongoing challenge. Right now we’re reducing waste wherever we can and using a mix of recycled and recyclable materials for our packaging.
Here's a quick breakdown of the things we're currently doing:
Laundry boxes = 95% recycled.
Auto dish tab boxes = 85% recycled (some virgin material is needed for strength).
ecostore bottles = HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) - code 2 for recycling.
Screw-top plastic lids on some of our bulk containers = Polypropylene - code 5 for recycling. (Lids have to be tougher to withstand pressure needed to tighten them).
We’re testing ways to use post-consumer recycled plastic in our bottles.
Polypropylene labels printed on a clear polyester backing = fully recyclable and don't need to be removed for recycling.
Clear backing and labels reduce the amount of printing inks and dyes required.
Water-based adhesive is used to apply our labels.
We offer refills and bulk sizes.
The plastic bag inside our laundry boxes is made of LDPE (code 4 for recycling). We’re getting rid of the bag as soon as we’ve made some adjustments to our laundry powder.
Measuring scoops inside our laundry powder boxes = 100% post-consumer regrind plastic.
We manufacture the only plastic trigger spray in NZ that contains no metal parts making it fully recyclable.
Labelled with a full list of ingredients.
Disclosure of ingredients is not legally required on any cleaning product labels in Australia or New Zealand yet, but we think it should be mandatory so that people can easily identify and research every ingredient. This is particularly important for people who are trying to reduce toxic chemicals in their lives and for anyone with allergies.
Concentrated to save you money.
Guided by the Einstein principle that 'the simplest solution is the most elegant', our research and development team uses the least number of ingredients at the lowest concentrations to get the best results. We don’t use bulking agents or fillers that can give a misleading idea of value and the concentrated goodness of our products means you don't need to use as much, saving you money overall.
Not tested on animals.
Our products proudly carry the PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) Logo. PETA is currently the world’s largest animal rights organisation. In return for using their logo on our packaging we have signed their statement of assurance verifying that we do not conduct or commission any animal tests on ingredients, formulations, or finished products and pledge not to do so in the future.
